Job Description:
The Interventional Radiology (IR) / Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology (CVIR) Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing minimally invasive, image-guided procedures. This role involves supporting diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, ensuring patient safety, and delivering high-quality care throughout the pre-, intra-, and post-procedural phases.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform comprehensive patient assessments prior to procedures, including medical history review and preparation
Educate patients and families on procedures, risks, and post-procedure care
Assist physicians during interventional and cardiovascular procedures (e.g., angiograms, stent placements, thrombolysis, embolization)
Administer and monitor conscious sedation and medications per protocol
Continuously monitor patient vital signs and hemodynamic status during procedures
Maintain sterile technique and ensure proper setup of procedure rooms and equipment
Recognize and respond to complications or emergencies in a timely manner
Provide post-procedure care, including recovery monitoring, documentation, and discharge instructions
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and safety protocols
Qualifications:
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (province/state specific)
BLS and ACLS certification required
Minimum 1–2 years of acute care experience; IR, cath lab, or critical care experience preferred
Strong knowledge of vascular access, cardiac monitoring, and sedation practices
Excellent critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in Interventional Radiology or Cardiovascular Lab
Moderate Sedation Certification
Experience with hemodynamic monitoring systems
